Pgec

(Project Gutenberg Etext Converter)

Pgec is a simple converter for documents written in Project Gutenberg Etext format. It replaces "EndOfLine" signs (cr/lf) in paragraphs with spaces. Every paragraph in converted file is written in one line.

Pgec is distributed under GNU General Public License. Those, who would like to get more in-depth information about Pgec, are wellcome to visit it's project group page on SourceForge.

Why to use it?

Project Gutenberg Etext lines are ca. 65 characters long. At the end of each line is "EndOfLine" sign. This format makes editing of text (almost) impossible. Word processors like StarOffice, KWord, AbiWord, MS Word use "EndOfLine" characters for marking the end of a paragraph, where in PG Etext there can be many "EndOfLine" signs in one paragraph (one on every 65 characters). For more precise info on PG Etext click here.

Pgec removes all the "EndOfLine" signs in paragraphs, and replaces them with spaces. The converted text is suitable for editing in word processors.

However, not all text looks good, if paragraphs are written in one line. Pgec can be successfully applied to most novels, but converting poetry books is not such a good idea.
